TransUnion Dipping AMEX Accounts into Fountain of Youth
TransUnion are no longer backdating AMEX accounts on their credit reports. AMEX used to report the opened account for any credit card of theirs as the date the person who applied for the card first became a member of the AMEX family, whether it was for the most recent card they applied for or for one they applied for in 1976. This backdating by AMEX technically ended a little while ago, but TransUnion seems to be cleaning up accounts a little bit at a time and going back to update certain credit card accounts with the actual date it was opened. The reason this is such a big deal is because the average age of accounts makes up roughly 15% of the FICO credit score, and for some people, this may drastically affect their TransUnion credit rating.
