Deriving its name from the 17th century entrepreneur whose idea it was to build a canal to connect two branches of the Yokobori River, Dotonbori is an area of Osaka built around the canal that is Osaka’s most popular nighttime destination.

Dotonbori overflows with bright neon signage, karaoke joints, quaint teahouses, and mouthwatering restaurants. The area is the embodiment of what many travelers picture modern Japan to be, and if it’s food (okonomiyaki!), beverage (sake!), and/or sensory overload you’re after, Dotonbori won’t disappoint.
