Tiger Leaping Gorge

Fed by the snow off Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Tiger Leaping Gorge lies about 60 miles northwest of Old Lijiang. Legend states that the rock in the center of the gorge allowed a mythological tiger to leap across the river.

The narrow gorge, at certain point, drops in elevation quickly causing the waters of the Jingsha river to roar to life.

In its quieter sections, rafting the river is a possibility, though if you want to stay dry, there are plenty of paths and lookout points for great photo opportunities.
