Toshogu Shrine

Toshogu Shrine is the final resting place of the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Known as Japan's most lavishly decorated shrine, it stands in stark contrast to much of Japan's traditional simplistic design style, and has many elaborate wood carvings adorning its various buildings.

Easily accessible from Nikko, the Toshogu Shrine should be a must visit for any tourist in the area because of its unique style in comparison to other Japanese shrines.
