War Memorial of Korea

The War Memorial of Korea opened in 1994 on the former site of the army headquarters. The grounds contain several monuments and a museum, documenting the military history of Korea and the formation of the modern state of South Korea. The purpose of the Memorial is to promote peace and unification particularly through teaching of the horrors of the Korean War.

Paired with a visit to the DMZ, the War Memorial of Korea goes a long way to educate tourists about the modern standoff between North and South Korea, how it happened, and the current state of the divided Korean peninsula.
