Estes Park

Estes Park rests at the doorstep to Rocky Mountain National Park. As the town holds the gateway to two entrances into the national park, there are a number of hotels and tourist shops to entice people off the main thoroughfare for a quick stop.

Staying in the town itself does offer several benefits, allowing you to enter the park early before the Denver crowd arrives (particularly in the fall!), easy access to the Estes Park Aerial Tramway, views of the town and valley on the way to Prospect Mountain peak, and if you splurge a little, you can experience the Stanley Hotel, which inspired Stephen King to write The Shining (and while the movie wasn't filmed here, the miniseries was).
