Consistently ranked as one of the best ski mountains in the United States, Vail offers excellent skiing from beginner trails to advanced trails and even an abundance of off-piste skiing in its famed back bowls. Perhaps its only true rival on all fronts from luxury to history to terrain to powder is Jackson Hole (though you'll find plenty who disagree).

The town of Vail is also very charming even if you happen to miss the snow season. It also hosts a number of music and beer festivals in the summertime.
